KIRKBY LONSDALE & SURROUNDING AREA

KIRKBY LONSDALE

The nearest village to Burrow Meadows is Kirkby Lonsdale, which has long been a favourite spot for tourists. Famous past visitors include Turner and Ruskin, who greatly admired the view from St Mary's Church across the valley. Similarly, on the edge of the village the Devil's Bridge attracts attention and is a good place to enjoy an ice cream.

If you don't care to shop, the small streets are a pleasant place for a stroll or the starting point for a more strenuous walk if you like hiking. Surrounded by fields and the great British countryside, it's paradise for all nature lovers.

EVENTS

Kirkby Lonsdale has hosted the Tour of Britain cycle race in 2019 and Burrow Meadows was perfectly placed to capture all the excitement. We are now waiting for the venue announcements for 2021! The Yorkshire Dales are on the doorstep including the villages of Ingleton, Settle and Clapham, which has caves open to visitors*. Tourist information Centres have details of seasonal and other events taking place. If you enjoy walking or are an experienced cyclist the apartment is a perfect base for exploring. To the North/West is the Lake District, where you will find Arnside, a popular tidal estuary destination for day-trippers and Kendal, a small, interesting, riverside town with galleries, a museum, exhibitions, shops and eating establishments. Further north lie more Lake District villages and places of interest with watersports and other outdoor activities on offer.
